This program promotes HIV prevention, Drug Abuse prevention, Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and healthy lifestyles among youth and vulnerable children in Uganda.

The core Focus Areas: HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support, Drug abuse prevention, malaria prevention and Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health.

HIV/AIDS Prevention of HIV/AIDS transmission among young people is done through the use of the following strategies;

1. ABC message: The youth are reached out to with messages of Abstinence, Be faithful and Consistent and Correct use of Condoms specifically targeting sexually active youth. Youth Aid Uganda is spearheading the establishment of condom outlets in colleges and universities.


2. Information, Education and Communication (IEC): Youth Aid Uganda develops and distributes IEC materials like posters, stickers, information toolkits, newsletters, leaflets etc with education messages on HIV prevention.


3. Capacity building: Training of youth peer educators. The youth peer educators promotes voluntary counseling and testing (VCT) and provide psychosocial support to affected and infected young people.

Sexual Reproductive Health The main aim of this sub-program is to improve and maintain the reproductive health of young people by bringing about behavioral change towards healthy sexual life through peer learning groups and supplementary programs. Activities includes among others; formation of Youth Aid clubs, use of music, dance and drama, peer to peer outreach, life skills training, counseling, advocating for and the provision of youth friendly services. Youth peer educators advocates for and influence positive peer relationships.

Drug abuse prevention aims at preventing children and youth from using drugs, and to enhance commitment and participation for drug abuse prevention through strengthening parent’s skills and securing the support of the community.

Many Youth in and out of school are involved in drug consumption which has greatly put their lives at stake. At the same time drugs are forcing them to get involved into a number of problems hence crimes. Youth AID Uganda working with young people carried out 6 community education and sensitization campaign about drug abuse prevention.

Information and communication materials (IEC) with messages of prevention and
education are produced and distributed.
