Handbooks with messages on HIV/ AIDS prevention.

 

Posters

Posters distributed and placed in places where the public can read the messages.

This involves providing HIV/AIDS/Drug abuse prevention, sexual and reproductive health and life skills education and information to young people in schools and out of school. This is done thorough the following sub-programs;

 

HIV/AIDS: Prevention of HIV transmission among young people through conducting community sensitization, peer education trainings, promoting voluntary counseling and testing, and provision of psychosocial support to affected and infected young people.


The situation of HIV/AIDS in Uganda is appalling especially among the youth both in and out of school. Among the youth, 39% are affected with the scourge which calls for an intervention. Youth AID Uganda with support from Stay Alive Foundation intervened by organizing trainings on HIV/AIDS prevention among the youth in High institution of learning (Makerere University Main Campus and Makerere University business school –
Nakawa Campus).


Information and education materials were designed and distributed with messages on HIV/AIDS prevention. Toolkits and posters were distributed and placed in places where the public can read the messages. Over 600 youth were reached with preventive messages.

 

ABC message strategy

This is a strategy used for behavioral change among the youth. Youth AID Uganda through the school and High institution of learning out reach programmes, the youth were reached with messages of Abstinence, Be faithful and use of Condoms. Over 1500 condoms were put into public places through Youth AID established Condom outlets.


Drug abuse prevention aims at preventing children and youth from using drugs, and to enhance commitment and participation for drug abuse prevention through strengthening parent’s skills and securing the support of the community.

 

Many Youth in and out of school are involved in drug consumption which has greatly put their lives at stake. At the same time drugs are forcing them to get involved into a number of problems hence crimes. Youth AID Uganda working with young people carried out 6 community education and sensitization campaign about drug abuse prevention.

 

Information and communication materials (IEC) with messages of prevention and
education are produced and distributed.
